Land Acknowledgement

Rooted Acknowledges with Gratitude…

That we reside on the traditional land of the Attiwonderonk and Haudenosaunee people. This land is held as the treaty lands and territory with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

“The City of Guelph lies directly adjacent to the Haldimand Tract and is part of a long-established traditional hunting ground for the Six Nations of the Grand River. Many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples who have come from across Turtle Island call Guelph home today.”*

*This statement comes from the City of Guelph website, which was created in collaboration with Indigenous community representatives.

Rooted Honours with Respect…

We recognize that the land is not “ours” to own. From the religious underpinnings of our organization, we believe in Leviticus 25, that land was never ours to own, but that wherever we are, we ought to honour and respect the land where we reside.

Specifically, we hope to honour the space where our agrihood is currently planted by drawing on the traditionally Indigenous wisdom of companion planting and cultivating native species in our place.

Rooted Seeks Further Wisdom…

Rooted is in the process of seeking Indigenous partnership and representation within the organization to further reconcilation work and better care for the space we presently reside.
